I might as well

27 Oct

So *everyone* is doing this 30 days meme that’s been going around the blogosphere (haven’t used that word in ages!).  After reading so many of the posts, I decided that this is one that I can’t miss out on.

I’ll be creating a separate page for this, so you can follow the progress there.

Without further ado, here are the rules (as seen on Angel, Caz, Jenty and Megan‘s blogs)

Over 30 days you stick to a list of blog topics. Topics designed to get you thinking about who you are and where you’re at.  As with Angel’s list, I won’t be posting on weekends, so it’ll be Monday to Friday for me (and yes, I may miss a day here or there, but I’ll try to stick to it as much as possible).

The list:

Day 01 → Something you hate about yourself
Day 02 → Something you love about yourself
Day 03 → Something you have to forgive yourself for.
Day 04 → Something you have to forgive someone for.
Day 05 → Something you hope to do in your life.
Day 06 → Something you hope you never have to do.
Day 07 → Someone who has made your life worth living.
Day 08 → Someone who made your life hell, or treated you badly.
Day 09 → Someone you didn’t want to let go, but just drifted.
Day 10 → Someone you need to let go, or wish you didn’t know.
Day 11 → Something people seem to compliment you the most on.
Day 12 → Something you never get compliments on.
Day 13 → A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough ass days. (write a letter.)
Day 14 → A hero that has let you down. (letter)
Day 15 → Something or someone you couldn’t live without, because you’ve tried living without it.
Day 16 → Someone or something you definitely could live without.
Day 17 → A book you’ve read that changed your views on something.
Day 18 → Your views on gay marriage.
Day 19 → What do you think of religion? Or what do you think of politics?
Day 20 → Your views on drugs and alcohol.
Day 21 → (scenario) Your best friend is in a car accident and you two got into a fight an hour before. What do you do?
Day 22 → Something you wish you hadn’t done in your life.
Day 23 → Something you wish you had done in your life.
Day 24 → Make a playlist to someone, and explain why you chose all the songs. (Just post the titles and artists and letter)
Day 25 → The reason you believe you’re still alive today.
Day 26 → Have you ever thought about giving up on life? If so, when and why?
Day 27 → What’s the best thing going for you right now?
Day 28 → What if you were pregnant or got someone pregnant, what would you do?
Day 29 → Something you hope to change about yourself. And why.
Day 30 → A letter to yourself, tell yourself EVERYTHING you love about yourself

Here we go…..

Lucky Number 7

15 May

So, my newly pregnant and ever entertaining cousin, Louisa, has nominated me for one of these babies:

Thanks Cuz!!

For me to accept, you have to endure the following list 😉

7 Loves of my life:

  2. Freshly popped popcorn with hot melted butter drizzled over it.
  3. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and rusks on a cold winter’s morning – especially when served in bed 🙂
  4. Cuddling underneath a warm, fluffy blanket.
  5. Walking barefoot on soft grass after a rainstorm.
  6. The feel of hot water cascading down your back after a long day.
  7. Feeling my baby move when she hears her daddy’s voice.

And my Lucky 7 blogs:

  1. The Adventures of Miss M
  2. Spindrifting South African Sea Monkey
  3. Jenty’s Ramblings
  4. Shared Insight
  5. The Jackson Files (I know you’ve already received a nomination, but I luuuurve your blog!)
  6. Peas on Toast

Have a good weekend everyone!

Top 10 Tuesday

2 Dec

Following in the tradition started by SleepyJane (and because I have very little motivation to do much else), here is my list of 10 favourite restaurants in Roodepoort (….I’m keeping it in Roodepoort, because if I had to expand, this list would be of at least 50 restaurants!!)

In no particular order:

  1. Piatto in Westgate. I’ve only eaten there once, but the food and the service was amazing (and well priced). I’ve only heard good things since and am seriously planning a big get together there.
  2. Seemans in Little Falls. Their food is fantastic, especially if you like meat. It’s a restaurant and a butchery in one, so their prices are also completely out of this world. (in a good way) They have the best steak on the West Rand, and at the price, you can have twice the steak for half the price!!
  3. Fournos Bakery also in Little Falls. They’re right next door to Seemans….it’s like a food heaven!! I’ve haven’t actually sat down and eaten there yet, but I have sampled the food from their bakery and it is to die for. Chocolate croissants, petit fours, mini milktarts, doughnuts….it’s a pregnant woman’s Mecca, I tell you!!
  4. Simply Asia in Clearwater Mall. The most amazing Thai restaurant ever!! I absolutely love this place. At once stage Hubby and I ate there every Sunday. Try the 515, trust me 🙂
  5. Café Fino in Clearwater Mall. The have the most delectable wraps and fabulous breakfasts. Go hungry.
  6. Sushi Tei in Ruimsig. They have the best sushi ever. Period. Sadly, I can’t eat their sushi for the next few months, but luckily they have a fantastic Tepanyaki section as well. (you know, those flat grills with the guys who throw your food around while you watch) Was there last night for a birthday, will go again soon.
  7. The Chinese Kitchen, also in Ruimsig. In Featherbrooke Village Shopping Centre, there lies a tiny restaurant in a corner. They serve an array of Chinese fare in the most delicate of settings. Perfect if you want to have a romantic dinner for two (especially if you have a small budget.) I can recommend any of the set menus for 2.
  8. Primi Frontier in Ruimsig. Home to the Jamjar and Teapot cocktails…..and the most delicious pizza and pasta around. Sadly, they seem to have closed down until further notice. Let’s hope it just for renovations.
  9. Adegas in Wilro Park. Prawns prawns prawns…..enough said.
  10. Meat-n-Eat on Ontdekkers Road. What a concept….you order your meat and the rest is all you can eat. Sounds like my kinda place. Book in advance if you plan to go over a weekend though, the place has been packed every night since they opened.

That’s me for now (can you tell I love food??). I promise to try and blog more often before my holiday starts next week 😉

10 Oct

Exmi threw me a bit of a lifejacket with this meme….I will get more time eventually….no really!

1. Who is your man? Hubby
2. How long have you been together? 5 years
3. How long did you date before you got married? We got engaged after knowing each other for six months, but only gat married 18 months later.
4. How old is your man? 29 in January
5. Who eats more? It depends where we’re eating….I can pack away prawns like there’s no tomorrow, but he kicks my butt with pizza. Other than that we eat pretty healthy and the same portion sizes
6. Who said “I love you” first? Me, but about 5 seconds. It was so sweet, we both knew at the same time.
7. Who is taller? Hubby, by about 2cm. He’s not the tallest guy around/
8. Who sings better? We’re both very musical and can both sing, but I sing a lot more than he does, so I get more practice (he beats met at Sing Star though)
9. Who is smarter? Ummm….I think I am, but only because he hides how intelligent he really is. I mean, he’s a drummer for heavens’ sake. He can think in 4 places at the same time!!
10. Whose temper is worse? Mine by far!! He never really gets angry….people have made comments about it. I’m Mount Vesuvius on the other hand.
11. Who does the laundry? Both of us….we take turns or do it together.
12. Who takes out the garbage? Again, both of us, but Hubby does it more often than I do.
13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? He does, it’s closer to the door, so he can protect me.
14. Who pays the bills? I pay the majority of the bills, and he takes care of spending and petrol money. It works for us.
15. Who is better with the computer? Definitely me. He can get around, but he doesn’t have access to a PC as often as I have.
16. Who mows the lawn? We thankfully don’t have a lawn to mow.
17. Who cooks dinner? Me mostly. He couldn’t cook when we met, but he’s improved a lot and actually likes cooking every now and then.
18. Who drives when you are together? Whoever wins. We both drive, but neither of us like driving, so we race to see who gets to the passenger door first, and the loser has to drive.
19. Who pays when you go out? Hubby mostly, as all my money goes to the bills. Sometimes I use my card though.
20. Who is the most stubborn? Me again, though he can be pretty stubborn too.
21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? We both admit when we’re wrong which is seldom as we don’t really fight a lot and when we do, we both apologize for whatever we did wrong.
22. Whose parents do you see most? Mine, his live 2 hours away, but we try and see them as often as we can.
23. Who kissed who first? I kissed him first….in fact, it was only the second time ever that I’d seen him, when I promptly dragged him outside, pegged him against a wall and kissed the hell out of him.
24. Who asked who out? We kinda just decided we’ll do the whole dating thing after I let him come up for air.
25. Who proposed? He did. It’s a long story.
26. Who is most sensitive? I think we both are pretty sensitive, though I’m more emotional.
27. Who has the most friends? Me, he’s an introvert, but all my friends consider him their friend as well, so we’re kinda equal.
28. Who has more siblings? Me, by faaaaaaaaaarrrr!! He only has one sister; I have two brothers, two step brothers and 5 stepsisters.
29. Who wears the pants in the family? He does in the end, even though he lets me think I do. I get my way most of the time, but if he says no, then I know its no.
30. How did you meet? at a bar in Heidelberg….he was playing a gig.

That’s me for now….I tag whoever wants to do this 🙂

A word for the week…..

29 Sep

Here goes:

Link back to the original meme (that would be this post) and the meme inspirer (that would be EXMI)
Link to the person who tagged you (Tamara)
Give (at least) 5 reasons why you love SA
Tag at least 5 peeps
Let me know when you’ve done it!

I love SA because:

Minibus taxi’s. They drive like idiots and cause accidents, but it just wouldn’t be the same without them. In a country where buying a car is out of the question for a lot of people, they’ve stepped up to offer some sort of public transport. And most of them are actually quite nice….I’m more likely to get a spot to squeeze into from a taxi, than from a lot of other cars. Oh, and they improve the driving and observation skills of the drivers around them.

Our heritage matters to us. So much so that we have a national holiday to celebrate the fact. Regardless of how westernised a lot of our thinking has become, there will always be room to go back to our roots, whether it be in language, religion or some other tradition.

Highveld thunderstorms. There is almost nothing as beautiful as watching a thunderstorm develop in Joburg. The sky darkens and colours seem to sharpen. Then all of heaven breaks loose. The sky lights up with brilliant displays of lightning, and you can literally feel the thunder as it rolls in the sky.

How well we blend. In a country where there are so many different cultures, we seem to be able to blend exceptionally well. Everyone can understand at least one other language, and is able to communicate in that language. We cross cultural borders with ease, and mostly accept that everyone is different, and we don’t expect people from other cultures or races to do things the same way our culture or race does things.

Our obvious affection for our fellow man. I’ve never heard of another country where hugs and kisses flow as freely as in ours. No family gathering is complete without everyone giving each other a hug and a kiss hello. We laugh together, and cry together and aren’t afraid to extend a hand to someone in need. The comments on my blog are enough to prove this, where hugs fly around when I have a bad day, even if they are only virtual. I know that someone will always be there for me when I’m in my own country, and they will be sincere.

I can’t tag anyone because everyone has been tagged already 🙂 What I can say is that I’ll miss all of you, as I’m leaving for Aardklop in the morning, and will only be back next week. Have an awesome week!!!

Current Addictions

11 Sep

Tag, you’re IT!!

Rulz is rulz:
*Post at least five current addictions (with some details please)
*Mention the person who started this game of tag (Being Brazen) and also the person who just tagged you (Tamara).
*Type your post with the heading “Current addictions”
*Tag at least two people and pass on the above rules.

The addictions of me:

Grilled cheese sarmies: I absolutely loooooooovvveeee these. I have it with black pepper, and lots and lots of Salt & Vinegar seasoning.

Red grape juice: I can easily finish 1.5 litres of the Liqui Fruit Grape juice in an hour.

Mackerel & Melba toast: I had this once at my mom’s house, and now I’ll pay R50 a shot to have the same brands again. Its delicious!!

Popcorn: I once nearly had a terrible-two-tantrum at the movies, because we were late and our friends wanted us to skip the popcorn. This was, like, two months ago.

Hubby’s band: (couldn’t have 5 foods…sheesh!) We’re in the final throes of the whole recording thing. The CD is with the distribution company (still) and should be released by next Wednesday. (it better!!) In the meantime I’ve been keeping the Facebook and MySpace pages as up to date as possible, throwing in as many extras and little tweaks as I am physically able to do. The design side of it has been especially fun, and I find myself ignoring work to look for some more interesting things to add to the pages.
